Sandwich Gasification Process

The SET Sandwich Gasification process was developed as a means for economically gasifying complex feedstocks into consistent-quality syngas, suitable for producing Fischer-Tropsch liquids, specialty chemicals, hydrogen, and electricity.

Efficient Waste To Energy Solutions

Our patented process uses an Advanced Gasification Technology developed for efficiently converting all types of carbonaceous waste materials into clean syngas. The reduction reaction zone in the gasifier produces and extracts the syngas. This is an endothermic reaction zone requiring heat transfer from the higher temperature zones of the gasifier.

Other technologies are unable to maintain adequate heat transfer to the reduction zone, so the temperature in conventional systems diminish, and waste conversion ceases. In contrast, the reaction zone configuration in the Sandwich gasifier promotes fast and efficient waste conversion by maintaining high temperatures throughout an extended reaction zone, thus enabling complete gasification without residues.

Improved Syngas Quality

Efficient Waste To Energy Solutions

Maintaining the higher-uniform temperature profile throughout the Sandwich reaction zone supports continual in situ conversion of tar, thus increasing production of clean syngas and avoiding costly shutdowns due to solid clinker formation from high ash wastes as well as challenges otherwise associated with disposal of unconverted residual materials.

Since this reaction zone configuration tolerates heterogeneous and/or less reactive carbonaceous fuels, the Sandwich Gasifier does not depend upon capital intensive pretreatment of feedstocks, disposal of unconverted wastes, or need to use catalysts for promoting conversion.

A typical Sandwich configuration consists of an endothermic reduction zone sandwiched between two high-temperature oxidation zones that maintains the optimal temperature between their interfaces for accomplishing complete conversion of the carbonaceous materials into syngas. Larger scale gasifiers will apply multiple sandwich zones to extend reaction regions for higher throughput.

Unlike conventional gasifiers, our unique configuration achieves complete waste conversion, improves syngas composition, and tolerates variations in moisture and energy content of the waste feedstocks.
